The Samaritan Woman

Begin in silence…
Quiet the noise around you and inside you, then sit in stillness as you focus your heart on God.

Set the scene…
Let’s travel to the outskirts of Sychar, a town in Samaria located in the modern-day West Bank. The well there is known as Jacob’s Well, situated on a plot of land purchased by Jacob, as noted in Genesis 33:18–19.

In the middle of the day, a woman from the town arrives to draw water and meets Jesus resting nearby. Her choice to visit the well alone in the heat of the day suggests she may be socially disconnected from her community. Perhaps even more surprising is that Jesus, a Jewish man, speaks to a Samaritan woman.
