The Accused Woman

Background on our sensory practice…
Instead of a spiritual practice, we will engage in an experience with our sense of touch. Before you begin, collect a stone or similar small object to hold in your hand.

Begin in silence…
Sit still and ask the Lord to open your heart, giving you the compassion to see others through his eyes.

Set the scene…
We find ourselves in the temple courts of Jerusalem, where Jesus is preparing to teach the gathering crowd. At this point in Jesus’ ministry, many religious groups are trying to catch him in blasphemy against the law of Moses.

Picture religious leaders interrupting Jesus as they bring a woman accused of adultery before the group. A surge of emotions arise: surprise from those listening to Jesus, indignation from the scribes and Pharisees, fear and embarrassment from the woman—and in the midst of it all, a sense of calm from Jesus.
