Phoebe The Letter Carrier
Background on today’s sensory practice…
Instead of a spiritual practice, we will engage in a sensory experience with our sense of touch. Today we will learn about Phoebe and visualize her carrying Paul’s letter to the Romans.
To prepare for this practice, choose one of the following options:
- Print the book of Romans from this link created for this story. It is 15 pages long. Fold the pages or roll them into a scroll and secure them with a ribbon or piece of string.
- If printing is not an option, open a physical copy of the Bible to the book of Romans and bookmark the pages from Romans chapter 1 to the end of chapter 16.
- If a physical copy of the Bible is not available, grab a letter or a piece of paper to hold in your hand.
Begin in silence…
Pause and slow your breathing. Reach for your Romans letter or book in your Bible. Hold it between your fingers as you think about its written contents.
Set the scene...
In today’s scripture reading, we meet Phoebe and learn about her life and her significance to Paul’s letter to the Romans. She is from Cenchreae, a port city of Corinth in modern-day Greece.
