Peter’s Mother-In-Law as Host

Begin in silence…
Sit still for a few moments. Breathe deeply and ask the Lord to meet you during this time.

Set the scene…
Today’s scripture takes us to the town of Capernaum, a fishing village on the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus spends much of his time. On this particular day, he finishes teaching in the synagogue and goes with his disciples to the home of Simon Peter and Andrew.

Peter’s mother-in-law lives there; as the most senior woman of the house, she serves as the host in charge of hospitality. However, she falls seriously ill before Jesus arrives. Her story is in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, but we will focus on the passages in Mark and Luke.
