Peter’s Mother-In-Law as Host

Begin in silence…
Sit still for a few moments and breathe deeply, asking the Lord to meet you in the quiet of this time.

Set the scene…
Our scene opens in Capernaum, a fishing village on the Sea of Galilee where Jesus spent much of his time. On this particular day, he finishes teaching in the synagogue and goes with his disciples to the home of Simon Peter and Andrew.

Peter’s mother-in-law lives there; as the most senior woman of the house, she serves as the host in charge of hospitality. However, she falls seriously ill before Jesus arrives. Her story is in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke.
