Mary Magdalene at the Tomb
Begin in silence…
Close your eyes and sit quietly for a few moments before beginning today’s session. Turn your palms up as a posture of openness to seeing scripture in a new way.
Set the scene…
For today’s reading, we journey to Jerusalem to examine the account of Jesus’ resurrection through the eyewitness testimony of Mary Magdalene. Mentioned in all four Gospels, Mary is a prominent figure in Jesus’ ministry; as we will see, she becomes a pivotal messenger of the Gospel.
While there is not much in the New Testament about her life, we see in Luke 8:2–3 that Mary Magdalene received healing from the possession of seven demons. From her encounter with Jesus in John 20, we recognize that she and Jesus have a close connection.
