The Treasury Widow

Preparation for today’s experience…
In addition to the spiritual practice of Lectio Divina, we will add a sensory experience using sound. Take a moment to gather two coins and a cup made of metal (or another material that makes a distinct sound when coins are dropped into it). Place these items before you and follow the instructions to incorporate them below.

Begin in silence…
Close your eyes and ask the Lord to clear your mind of any distractions that hinder you from being present with Him.

Set the scene…
Venturing into the temple treasury in Jerusalem, we witness the story of the "Widow’s Mite," a moment that highlights her deep faith and devotion. Within the Temple in Jerusalem lay the Court of Women, a place where both men and women were allowed. There, the treasury featured thirteen trumpet-shaped chests to collect temple taxes, tithes and other donations. Some of the wealthier givers made a spectacle as they deposited their money. Jesus sat and observed the widow from a place across from the treasury.
