Heroic Rahab

Begin in silence…
Close your eyes and sit quietly; open your hands to release your worries so you can focus entirely on our story.

Set the scene…
We open the Old Testament book of Joshua, where the Lord has just chosen Joshua to lead the Israelites following the death of Moses. As they prepare to cross the Jordan River to enter the Promised Land, God offers a powerful promise in Joshua 1:3–6. Listen to it below.

I have given you every place where the sole of your foot will tread, just as I promised to Moses. Your territory shall extend from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great River Euphrates—all the land of the Hittites—and west as far as the Great Sea. No one shall stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall give these people the inheritance of the land that I swore to their fathers I would give them.

It is here that we encounter Rahab, a Canaanite woman from the city of Jericho. She becomes an unlikely catalyst, reminding the Israelites of God’s faithfulness and his promise.
