Thank you for supporting Significant Stories. This Purchase Policy explains the terms that apply when you make a purchase through our Service, whether that's a membership subscription or a donation. We want to be straightforward about what you're getting, how billing works, and what to expect.
1. Payment Processing
When you make a purchase on Significant Stories, you are entering into a transaction with Significant Stories LLC. We are the seller of record for all purchases.
Payment processing is handled by Stripe, a trusted third-party payment processor. Your payment information (such as card details and billing address) is collected directly by Stripe — we never see or store this data. Stripe's terms and privacy policy apply to payment processing:
2. Digital Products
All purchases on Significant Stories are for digital content and services. Nothing physical is shipped. When you purchase a membership, you gain immediate access to member features and content through your existing account.
3. Membership Subscriptions
Plans and Pricing
Membership is available as a recurring subscription with the following plans:
- Quarterly — billed every 3 months
- Annual — billed once per year
Current pricing is displayed on the membership page at the time of purchase. Prices include applicable taxes, which are calculated based on your location and collected at checkout.
What Members Receive
A membership unlocks access to premium features and content, including the Author's Journey and early access to upcoming stories. The specific benefits of membership may evolve over time as we continue to build and improve the Service.
Renewal
Subscriptions can be set to renew automatically or manually — the choice is yours. With automatic renewal, you'll be charged the then-current price for your plan at the end of each billing period. If you prefer manual renewal, your membership will simply expire at the end of the period and you can renew when you're ready. You will receive a receipt for each transaction.
Cancellation
You may cancel your membership at any time from your Account page. When you cancel:
- Your membership remains active until the end of your current billing period — you've already paid for that time, and we want you to enjoy it.
- You will not be charged again after cancellation.
- Any content you created or saved while a member (such as reading history, favorites, and bookshelves) remains in your account.
You can restart your membership anytime by purchasing a new subscription.
Price Changes
If we change membership pricing, the new price applies to your next billing cycle. We will notify you in advance of any price changes so you have the opportunity to cancel before the new price takes effect.
4. Donations
We gratefully accept one-time donations of any amount. Donations are voluntary and separate from membership. They support the ongoing development and mission of Significant Stories. Donations are not tax-deductible.
5. Refund Policy
Because all purchases are for immediate access to digital content and services, we generally do not offer refunds. When you subscribe, you receive instant access to member benefits.
That said, we understand that sometimes things don't go as expected. If you believe a charge was made in error, or if you experience a technical issue that prevents you from accessing what you've paid for, please reach out to us. We'll do our best to make it right.
If you believe a refund is warranted, please contact us directly. We review refund requests on a case-by-case basis and will do our best to make it right.
6. Account and Content Persistence
We believe that if you've paid for something, it should remain yours. Here's how we handle your content:
- While your membership is active — you have full access to all member features and content.
- After your membership expires or is cancelled — you retain access to your account and all free content. Any personal data you created (reading history, favorites, bookshelves, notes) remains in your account.
- Member-only content — access to premium content and early access windows requires an active membership. If your membership lapses, this content becomes available again if you resubscribe or when it enters the free content window.
If you choose to delete your account, all your data is permanently removed as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Currency and Taxes
Prices are listed in US dollars. All applicable taxes (sales tax, VAT, GST) are calculated based on your location and included in the total amount charged at checkout.
8. Failed Payments and Grace Period
If a renewal payment fails, we will attempt to process the payment again over a short period. During this time, your membership remains active so there's no interruption to your experience. If payment cannot be collected after multiple attempts, your membership will be downgraded to the free tier.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Purchase Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted with a new effective date. Your continued use of paid services after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
