Advocacy
As you experience the significant stories of women, you may begin to ask, "How can I help?" Here are ways to become an advocate for women's roles in the church.
Support Women in Church Ministry
Determine your church’s view on women in leadership.
- Review the staff directory: Search your church’s website for discrepancies in titles between women and men (e.g. “pastor” vs. “director”). Check if women are included in elder or leadership boards.
- Observe the service: Notice if you see women leading worship services, Bible studies or other co-ed events.
- Ask a leader: Ask an elder or staff member if the church has a formal stance on women's roles in the church.
Advocate for women in your church.
- Recognize and encourage: Actively identify women using their spiritual gifts and offer them specific, verbal encouragement.
- Challenge tradition: Respectfully challenge long-held church traditions that have always been led by men. Consider ways women can be included.
- Ask questions: Ask women in church ministry about their ministry callings and how you can support and pray for them.
